ABSOLUTE VALUE MODAL STRAIN ENERGY METHOD FOR VISCOELASTIC DAMPING CONTROL OF TRUSS STRUCTURE

The Modal Strain Energy Method(MSE) and Absolute Value Strain Energy Method(AVMSE) to solve the complex eigenvalue problems approximately are described briefly.The modal damping ratio of space truss structure with added viscoelastic dampers is calculated using both MSE and AVMSE methods for damping control of the structure.The experiment in damping control of a truss structure adding viscoelastic dampers is completed.The comparison between the analytical results and experimental results shows that the AVMSE method is more advanced and accurated than the MSE method while the effect of viscoelasticity to the structure is larger for calculating the modal damping ratio of the complex eigenvalue problems.
