Pharmacological Effect of Total Glucosides of Paeony Root

Wang Yongxiang et al
The pharmacological studies of total glucosides of paeony root(TGPs)were carried out,At dosage of about quarter of LD_(50),TGPssuppressed mouse's movement(20-40/kg)and irratation responses (30mg/kg).It also had a strong hypothermic effect, which wasrelated to the environment temperature.TGPs had a mild action ofsubsiding oedema of rat ankle joint induced by carragenan(60-120mg/kg),but it had no effect on mouse ear oedema induced by dimethylbenzene(40mg/kg).In vitro,TGPs(2.5-5.0×10~(-5)g/ml)increased thecontraction of guinea pig's ileum induced by acetylcholine or hista-mine and rat's uteri by oxytocin, while it had no appearent effecton the spontaneous contraction of the smooth muscles.LD_(50) of TGPsin the mouse was 125mg/kg,and in the rat 301mg/kg.
