The existence and distributions of intramucosal neurons in human small intestine

Wu Ruiwe;et al
Our observations found that neurons existed in the mucosa of human small intestine. They were located in the muscularis mucosa and the lamina propria. Most of them in the lamina propria were adjacent to the muscularis mucosa,a few away from it,and only a few high-position neurons existing at over 1/2 height of the mucosa about 95 μm from muscularis mucosa. Therefore,it is indicated that there are three types of intramucosal neurons.in human small intestine namely, some in the muscularis mucosa, some in the lamina propria adjacent to the muscularis mucosa, others away from the muscularis mucosa between the crypts of Lieberkuhn.
