Flame retardant finish of cotton fabric treated with epoxy-POSS/APP composite

Epoxy polyhedral oligemeric silsesquioxanes(POSS) is prepared by 3-glycidyloxy-propyl-trimethoxysilane(KH-560) as a raw material and tetramethylammonium hydroxide(TMAH) as a catalyst. Epoxy-POSS is characterized by Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) and thermal gravity analysis(TGA). Appropriate surfactant is selected to emulsify the epoxy-POSS under the HLB=7. Composite flame retardants with different mass ratios of epoxy-POSS to APP are prepared for flame retardant finishing of cotton fabrics. The results show that when the mass ratio of epoxy-POSS to APP is 6∶4, the finished cotton fabric features good retardant effect with 40.08 ofLOI,0 s of the after flame time and afterglow time, 2 cm of the damaged length, 210 ℃ of the rapid weight loss temperature, and 31% of the carbon residue rate.
