Determination of trace lead and iron in cobalt sulfate by flame atomic absorption spectrometry after coprecipitation with neodymium phosphate

A method for separation and the preconcentration of trace lead and iron in cobalt sulfate by using neodymium phosphate as the coprecipitator and the detection with flame atomic absorption spectrometry was studied.Coprecipitation parameters including pH of the solution, amounts of NdCl_3 and H_3PO_4,and the ageing time were discussed.It was found that lead and iron could be coprecipitated quantitatively at pH 3.0~4.0. The detection limits(3σ) for lead and iron in 20 mL sample solution were 8.72×10~(-3) mg·L~(-1) and 2.51×10~(-2) mg·L~(-1) respectively,and the standard addition recoveries were 101.6% and 101.2% respectively. The interference of matrix was overcome and satisfactory results were achieved.
