Spectrophotometric determination of trace germanium with 1,5-di(2-hydroxy-5-chlorophenyl)-3-cyanoformazane

The color reaction of chromogenic agent 1,5-di(2-hydroxy-5-chlorophenyl)-3-cyanoformazane(HCPCF) with Ge  was studied in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTMAB).A novel spectrophotometric determination of trace Ge with high sensitivity was established.The results showed that the color agent could form a stable blue complex with Ge in Na2B4O7-NaOH buffer solution at pH 10.0 and the molar ratio of reagent∶metal was 4∶1.The maximum absorption peak of the complex was located at 632 nm with the apparent molar absorptivity of 2.7×105 L·mol-1·cm-1.Beer's law was obeyed in the concentration range of 0.002-0.32 μg/mL for Ge.The detection limit of this method was 0.80 mg/ mL.After eliminating the interference by extracting and separating Zn with sodium diethyl dithiocarbamate-carbon tetrachloride(DDTC-CCl4),the method is applied to the determination of trace Ge in zinc concentrate with the recovery of 103.7%-104.6% and the RSD of lower than 3%(n=6).
