Determination of europium oxide in rare earth oxides by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry

A method for the determination of europium oxide in rare earth oxides by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was established by dissolving sample with nitric acid,determining europium isotopes 151Eu and 153Eu in the test solution and taking the average of the measured values of both as the measured value of europium.The experiment determined that 1%(volume fraction) HNO3as the medium for the determination,the RF power of 0.9kW,the carrier gas flow rate of 0.79L/min,and with cesium as the internal standard element to eliminate the signal drift and matrix effect on the determination.Under selected instrument parameters and experimental conditions,the mass concentration of europium oxide in the range of 2.00-100.00μg/L constituted a good linear relationship and the detection limit of method was 0.08μg/L.The Eu2O3content in rare earth oxides internal control standard samples of Baotou mine(Eu2O3reference value being 0.22%)was determined and the determination value was consistent with the reference value.The method was applied to the determination of europium oxide in synthetic rare earth oxide samples,the measurement results were consistent with those obtained by inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry,with the relative standard deviation(n=11)from 1.3% to 1.4% and the recovery in the range of 98%-106%.
