Preparation of Borohydride Anion Exchange Resin (BER) and Reductions of Carbonyl Group and Acyl Chloride Compounds

An improved method of preparing Borohydride anion Exchange Resin(BER)hasbeen accomplished by treatment of quaternary ammonium type anion exchange resins withalkaline soln.(unstired),followed by washing on a column with NaBH_4 soln.The reduc-tion capacities of the resins were found to be 2.5~14.6 mmol/g,some of them were higherthan values reported before.In general,the capacities of all kinds of resins immersed in al-kali were higher than those unimmersed.Not only carbonyl compounds,but also some acylchlorides could be reduced to the corresponding alcohols and aldehydes in satisfactory yieldswith these BER.The resins could be recycled a few times without drastic decrease in redu-cing capacity.
