Effects of gypenosides on monoamine transmitter contents of brain and physical signs in normal and reserpinized mice

The effects of gypenosides on the content of brain monoamine transmitters and their metabolites were measured in the normal and reser-pinized miee by means of high performanee liquid chromatography electrochemistry,and the effects ofgypenosides on physical signs,such as temperature,body weight and activity were observed simultaneously It was found that there was an obvious decrease in the eontent of brain norepinephrine,dopamine and serotonin in the reserpinized mice,whilegypenosides could attenuate the decrease of theabove mentioned monoamine transmitters in the same model Chronie gypenosides administration eould also improve the ehanges in the expression of appearanee,body weight,temperature and aetivity in reserpinized miee At the same time it was found that gypenosides itself had little or no effeet on the eontent monoamine transmitters in the normal mouse brain .
