Design and Optimization of Transition Section Connecting Structure of Different Thickness for Nuclear Class Pressure Vessel

As an example of transition section connecting structure of different thickness of cylinder and head,several transition section connecting structures′ feature was analyzed,and the optimal and analytical techniques of ANSYS were applied to optimize this local structure.Stress concentration in this area is improved by changing the cone tapered transition section length and the distance between the center lines of cylinder and head and then safety and reliability of nuclear grade pressure vessel is increased.Finally,giving the variation of the largest membrane+bending stress in the transition section as the changing the distance between the center lines of cylinder and head,the impact of this distance to stress changes is directly and clearly demonstrated and guidance to design variety of transition section connecting structures is provided for future.
