Removal of Phosphorus in Municipal Water with Natural Materials

The removal of P in wastewater with mineral materials and steel slag is studied. The results show that the reactive mixtures for municipal wastewater treatment are effective to removal phosphorus. The P concentration of effluent in initial stage is lower than that the requirements of the National Standard, but with the increase of the amount of effluent, the P removal effect become worse. The dissolution of the large amount CaO in slag results in the high pH of the effluent, which is associated with the better efficiency of removal of phosphorus.
