FEM Analysis for Effect of Friction between Chips and Tools on Cutting Process

The reasonable two-dimension heat-mechanic coupling orthogonal cutting model is established by the FEM analysis software based on the Lagrange quality point coordinate system description method,the friction status between the chips and tools is simulated by use of the ameliorated Coulomb friction theory.The results show that the touching length of rake face and chip,the cutting temperature,the cutting forces and the residual stresses of machined surface are all increased with the increase of the friction coefficient.The friction coefficient plays an important role in the machining quality.
