Quantitative study of contemporaneous fault of eastern basin oil reservoir in China

Contemporaneous normal faults formed by gravity slumping are developing widely in sand -shale sedimentary formations of Mesozoic and Cenozoic group in Songliao, Bohai Bay and Sanshui basins in the east of China. The ratio of the same -horizon formation thickness in two sides of the fault can not only quantitatively study the fault growth and reveal the features and rule of the fault itself, but also control the forming conditions including oil-gas migration, accumulation and preservation of the oil reservoir related to the fault. Quantitative study method of the contemporaneous fault and its geologic role during the forming process of the correlated oil reservoir are discussed taking the oil reservoir of those three basins as examples in this paper.
