Geological characteristics and prospecting criteria of the No. V2 orebody in the Xihuang vanadium deposit,Henan

The Xihuang vanadium mine located in the Eastern Qinling orogenic belt,as part of the Qinling gold and silver polymetallic mineralization area. The ore bodies occur in the carbonaceous shale at the bottom of the Shuigoukou group of Lower Cambrian system as layered form. The hanging wall and footwall are carbonaceous limestone and siliceous rocks respectively. The orebody is strictly controlled by the Lower Cambrian Shuigoukou formation and the deposit belongs to the typical sedimentary vanadium deposit. The chemical compositions of the ore are mainly SiO2,Al2O3,Na2 O,CaO,K2 O and MgO,etc.,and the useful composition is V2O5. The vanadium ore is acidic ore types. Main prospecting criteria were summarized as followings: 1) lower and middle sections of Shuigoukou formation of Lower Cambrian system; 2) ourcropped prominently siliceous rocks and ridges sudden drop site; 3) geographical sites where suddenly change from the ridge point; 4) geochemical characteristics; 5) human exploitation sites. The deposit remains potential to be developed in the depth.
