Factors and prediction on deformation of soldier piles in deep foundation pits in soft area

In the deep excavations in soft area,the hollow steel columns are usually adopted to bear the upper loads.The stress mechanism of soldier piles and the factors on their vertical deformation were studied,by use of the bottom-up and top-down excavations.Based on a very deep excavation in soft area,a set of detailed measured data of the soldier piles was obtained. Four groups of calculation of the heave of the soil elements below the center of excavation were finished.Comparison between the calculated and the measured data was done.It was found that if the modulus of soil could be raised and the effect of the friction force of cast-in-place piles below the soldier piles was considered,the calculated values were much closed to the measured ones.
