Analysis and discussion on space effect and translational failure of 3D soil nailed walls

The stability evaluation of soil nailed walls using rotational computational models and without considering its space effect on design scheme, sometimes results in confliction between calculation results and its actual status during practice. This paper discusses two questions of the space effect and translational failure involving its stability prediction based on 3D limit analysis approach and to highlight these two questions, a case of soil nailed wall in Wuhan city is studied. Some of preliminary conclusions are drawn and hopefully have a little reference to the design of soil nailed wall.
