Time-travel analytical method for earthquake-induced differential settlement of building foundation using FEM

Based on the mechanism of earthquake-induced differential settlements of buildings, an analytical method of the two-dimensional FEM for estimating the earthquake-induced differential settlement of buildings is presented. Using the model of residual strain of soils under irregular loading and progressively softening model, the method can consider the combined action of the soil, structure and seismic wave more reasonably and can describe the process of the differential settlements of the buildings. The comparison results with large shaking table tests indicate that the new method is reliable.
