Relationship between lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 concentration and arteriosclerosis in rabbits

Objective To study the relationship between lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 concentration and arteriosclerosis in the hyperlipemic rabbits.Methods Forty-eight healthy male New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into control group and high-fat diet group.Hyperlipemia models were established in male rabbits,which were collected of fasting serum samples for tests of blood lipids and lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 concentrations at weeks 0,4,8 and 12.Meanwhile,the arteries of rabbits were studied under optical microscope for morphological changes.Results ①Among rabbits on high-fat diet,levels of total cholesterol(TC) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) were higher than those among controls at weeks 4,8 and 12(P0.01),so was the level of high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HLD-C) but this appeared declining over the weeks(P0.05).②After 8 weeks,level of triglycerides began to increase in the high-fat diet group(P0.01).③Rabbits on high-fat diet showed higher levels of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase-A2(LP-PLA2) as compared with controls at weeks 4,8 and 12(P0.01).Conclusion Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase-A2(LP-PLA2) seems to have a role in the progression of arteriosclerosis.
