Preparation of SnO_ 2-CuO Nanoparticles and Their Catalytic Activity in Thermal Decomposition of Cyclotrimethylene Trinitramine

SnO 2-CuO composite nanoparticles were prepared by co-precipitation method. The particle size, structure, morphology and composition of the product were characterized by TG, XRD, TEM and EDS. The cataly- tic activity of the product in the thermal decomposition of cyclotrimethylene trinitramine(RDX) was determined. The average particle size of the product were in the range of 4 to 10 nm as the calcination temperature of the precursors was from 400 ℃ to 600 ℃. The SnO 2-CuO nanoparticles exhibit high catalytic activity in the thermal decomposition of RDX. The peak temperature of thermal decomposition of RDX decreased by 9 ℃, and the decomposition enthalpy ΔH of RDX increased by 422 J/g, in the presence of SnO 2-CuO composite nanoparticles.
