Actinidia chinensis Planch. var. chinensis and its hispida variety have both been introduced from the wild into culture in Beijing and success-fully moved to higher northern latitude about 6 degree beyond their ori-ginal habitat. They have blossomed and fruited well under the microclimate of a shelter-belt. Both varieties are very alike in their biological characteri-stics and development phases except that the blossoming date,of the var. chinensis is about 10 days earlier than that of the var. hispida. According to the selection standards of big fruit with fine quality as well as high-yield We have selected 4 female plants, including 3 of var. chinensis and 1 of var. hispida. According to the length of flowering period, amount of blossom, the germinating capacity of pollen and good compatibility in pollination, we have selected 3 male plants, 2 of var. chinensis and 1 of var. hispida.
