Isozymes of glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase ( GOT ) were ana-lyzed by the electraphoresi for 52 species and cultivars of 11 genera of Aurantiae. The results indicated that the pattern and genotype showed a great range of variability among genera, but Fortunella and Atalantia had the same GOT-2 pattern, indicating that Atalantia might be the pio-neer genus of Foriunella, and Aegle the pioneer genus of triforiate oran-ge. The results of the present study supported the view-point of Scora that citron, pummelo and mandarin are three elementary species of Citrus. However, the initial species of mandarin should be Tachibana or similar wild species.
According to GOT-2 bands and their shapes, we propose that lime evolves from papeda, rough lemon is a hybrid between limonia and lemon, Meyer lemon and bergamot are hybrids of lime and lemon,oran-ges come from hybridization of pummelo and mandarin.
Two new bands which moved faster than P band in GOT-1 of Feroniella, Seuerinia and Atalantia were named G and H respectively.
