Effects of the Stylar S glycoproteins on the Pollen Germination and the Tube Growth in Pears( Pyrus serotina Rhed.)in Vitro

S glycoproteins,which are ribonucleases,were purified from stylar of pear cultivar‘Shinsui’by CM sepharose and SP sepharose.After the S glycoproteins were added to the pollen incubation medium,the germination and the tube growth of self pollen were obviously inhibited,and the inhibition occurred during the period of 3~12h after the incubation of pollen grains.The inhibition on the self pollen germination and the tube growth in vitro by S glycoproteins were more obvious with the increasing of S glycoprotein concentrations,and when the S glycoprotein concentration was up to 1.25μg·μL -1 ,the self pollen germination and the tube length reduced to 65% and 38% of that in controls,respectively.The S glycoprotein showed the similar effect on the pollen of‘Kohsui’,which is cross incompatible with‘Shinsui’.However,no inhibition of S glycoprotein happend to the pollen germination of the‘Chojuro’,a cross compatible cultivar with‘Shinsui’,and only the tube length was inhibited to 79% of that in control.The stylar soluble protein without S glycoprotein did not show any effect on the germination and the tube growth of any self and non self pollen.
