Study of Al/AlN composites sintered at high pressure

The influence of La2O3 on the sintering properties and microstructure of Al/AlN composites were studied,which were made by high pressure and high temperature(HPHT) apparatus(China type,SPD-6×1200).The results show that the densification of composites without additives happens at 1300~1500℃;while La2O3 can present sintering-supporting property at low temperature 1100~1300℃ and the composites with La2O3 can gain the highest density after heating for only 30 min at 1500℃.The composite sintered under 5.0 GPa and 1500℃ for 50 min has dense microstructure,most of the crystal grains are hexagonal with nearly homogenous size.
