Discrimination of Coptis chinensis Franch and its processed products by electronic tongue

AIM To use electronic tongue to discriminate coptis( Coptis chinensis Franch) and its processed products( including raw,wined,zingiber-processed and Tetradium ruticarpum-processed coptis). METHODS Ten batches of coptis collected from Sichuan,Hubei,Yunan Province and Chongqing City were processed and made into 40 aqueous extracts for electronic tongue analysis. Then soft independent modeling of class analogy( SIMCA),principle component analysis( PCA),discriminant factor analysis( DFA),linear discriminant analysis( LDA) and back-propagation artificial neural network( BP-ANN) were applied to evaluating the experimental data. RESULTS A significant difference in taste characteristic among decoction pieces of coptis was found,raw coptis and its processed products could be distinguished by SIMCA,PCA model showed that they had obvious difference. The recognition correct rate of the identification of them was 100% acquired by DFA,the initial identification and cross-validation recognition rate of LDA were also 100%,the recognition rate of identifying unknown sample was 91. 7% achieved by BP-ANN model,and the comprehensive recognition rate of all samples was99. 4%. CONCLUSION Electronic tongue can achieve the objectification of taste characteristic of coptis and its processed products,then correctly discriminate them.
