PARAMETER OPTIMIZATION OF MULTI-TMDS FOR WIND-EXCITED VIBRATION SUPPRESSION OF TALL BUILDINGS

A study on optimizing the parameters of multiple tuned mass dampers(MTMD) for wind_exited vibration suppression of high_rise buildings is described.Based on the three_dimensional finite element model for design analysis of tall building,a reduced_order lumped mass MDOF model with same modal properties as the original model is developed for MTMD design.By dividing the building_damper system into two sub_structures,transfer functions of the building with MTMD attached at arbitrary stories are explicitly derived,and random responses of the building_damper system are accurately expressed by adopting appropriate wind force spectrum and accounting for spatial coherence of the excitation.With these analytically derived formulations,the genetic algorithm is then applied to search optimal parameters of the MTMD,which achieve the maximum response suppression for the building.A case study of an actual 50_storey tall building in HK using MTMD for the wind_excited response mitigation is given as an example.
