Pushover analysis of different distribute lateral load patterns for seismic assessment of bridge piers

Pushover analysis uses the incremental distribute lateral load pattern to substitute the inertial load under earthquake response.The difference of lateral load patterns will affect pushover analysis results directly,so the load pattern selection is one of the critical issues in pushover analysis,especially when the higher mode influences are important.Here,7 earthquake records were selected.Earthquake responses of 15m,30m and 60m bridge piers were compared by using time history analysis(IDA) and pushover analysis with 4 different lateral load patterns.Three various structural levels were used for evaluation of different lateral load patterns in pushover analysis.The study showed that the results of adaptive pattern pushover analysis are more precise than other patterns,when the structure is in higher inelastic state and the higher mode effects cannot be neglected.
