A Study on Typing of Y.Pestis in China and Ecologico-epidemiological Significance

Ji Shuli,et al
418 strains of Y.Pestis isolated from different natural foci in China weretyped according to their utilization of glycerin,rhamnose,maltose,melibi-nose,arabinose,nitrate reduction, nutrient requirement;mutation from Pgm~+to Pgm~-,Pst 1 production and Pst 1 sensitivity, growth curve in humanserum(in vitro,Fe~(+++) free),lipopolysaccharide content and FI antigencontent. They were divided into 17 ecotypes, each of them being localized inparticular place. It was suggested that the natural selection factors of theseecotypes were a complex of ecosystems such as reservoir(rodent),vector(flea),vegetation and so on.Results suggest that the virulence of these 17ecotypes in animals was not identical to that in human beings. For example, the Qilian Mountain Ecotype and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Ecotype werepossible ecotypes of the highest virulence for human beings, while theXilingele Plateau Ecotype was the lowest.
