Exact Residual Modes and Their Synthesis Techniques

The exact residual modes for substructures with free interfaces are expressed according to the mixed expansion of dynamic flexibility in the summation of three terms,which include the Rubin's second- order approximate terms and their exact residual term.For the substructure with rigid-body motion,they are expressed similarly by deleting kept modes.The modal synthesis based on the exact residual modes is performed exactly in terms of the Ritz procedure.And then the iterative procedure to solve the nonlinear e- quation of modal synthesis with the first iterating approximation just as given by the Craig and Wang's modal synthesis so as to converge rapidly,is presented.Numerical examples show that the proposed exact iterative synthesis techniques using free substructural residual modes will yield the superior modal accuracy under several employed lower modes so as to be available for experimental modal synthesis.
