Numerical study of the ground settlement caused by the excavation in soft soil

Yu Jianling Zhao Rongxin Gong Xiaonan(Dept.of Civil Engineering, Zhejiang University,Hangzhou,310027)  
The paper using FEM firstly analyses some factors which affect the maximum ground settlement during the excavation in soft soil; and then analyses the influence of the variable width and depth of passive strengthening zone on the deformation of retaining wall, and some valuable conclusions are drawn. It is hoped that this paper might be a reference for engineers.
