2MHz ultrasound enhanced thrombolysis in occlusion of the middle cerebral artery of rabbits during unokinase infusion

Objective To determine whether trancranial Doppler ultrasound(TCD)can safely enhance the thrombolytic activity of unokinase.Methods 38 rabbits were randomized into 2 groups:the target group,receiving TCD continuous monitoring combined with unokinase infusion and the control group,receiving unokinase only. Mean velocities of the middle cerebral artery were recorded.Results The percentage of recanalization in the tar- get group was 73.7%,significantly higher than that in the control group(42.1%).The infarct size in the target group was 10.7%,significantly smaller than that in the control group(18.4%).Conclusion TCD combined with unokinase is more effective than unokinase alone for thrombolysis in acute cerebral infarctions.TCD combined with unokinase is effective in the treatment of acute ischemia cerebral vascular disease.
