Carbon Sequestration Effect of Different Artificial Grasslands in Inner Mongolia Desert Grassland Area

Nine artificial grasslands in Inner Mongolia desert grassland were investigated to elucidate the variations in carbon sequestration capacity(CSC)with different grassland types.The results showed that artificial grassland in Siziwangqi desert steppe effectively increased soil carbon storage compared with the natural grassland.Alfalfa,Caragana intermedia,Caragana microphylla had the strongest CSC.Plant roots were distributed mainly in 0~30cm layer of soil,and belowground biomass were higher than aboveground biomass in all grasslands.Aboveground biomass of millet straw,alfalfa and oat straw were higher.Belowground biomass of alfalfa,Caragana microphyllaand Caragana intermedia were higher.In the western region of Inner Mongolia,the planting of legumes can effectively promote the accumulation of soil carbon pool.
