An Early Image Analysis of the Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia of the Premature Infants

OBJECTIVE To study the early radiological image manifestations of the bronchopulmonary dysplasia(BPD)of the premature infants in order to improve the ability of the early diagnosis of BPD.METHODS To review and analyze the radiological image manifestations in chest of 17 definite cases of BPD of the premature infants with final diagnosis.RESULTS Among them,5 cases had no apparently abnormal images;12 cases secondarily developed some other primary thoracic diseases.5 cases presented clouding images with comparatively reduced degrees of transmittance of the two lung fields;4 cases' developing courses of their primary diseases lasted for 2 to 4 weeks,without any disappearing sings of abnormality,and without,in addition,any apparent changes according to theircontinuous pictures;6 cases' main manifestations of the two lung fields,in accordance with their Computer Tomography(CT),presented a clouded glass-shaped density and consolidated shadows;10 cases had over-charged lungs,while light0transmitted shadows appeared with differnt sizes and with capsule-like shapes;4 cases displayed their two lungs widespread with thicklattice-like shadows.CONCLUSIONS Although the diagnosis of the bronchopul monary dysplasia based mainly on its clinical history,an early radiological image manifestation owns its own value.Meanwhile the widespread capsule-like shadows in the thoracic thin-layer CT films are the significant signs through which BPD can be promptly detected and the continuous radiological follow-ups help a lot to obtain an early diagnosis of the disease.
