A Co-frequency Dynamic Equivalence Approach for Calculation of Power System Frequency Dynamics

This paper discusses the calculation and equivalence problem of the large connected electric power system frequency dynamics. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of frequency dynamics, a co-frequency dynamic equivalence approach has been developed, in which the rotating speed of generators are used co form an RMS criterion and then the system size is reduced by aggregating the generators identified by the criterion. The approach have been compared with several other dynamic equivalence method in two systems which have different sizes. The results given have shown that the equivalent system reduced by the co-frequency method is much more accurate than the others in the calculation of frequency dynamics.
