Feasibility Research of White Mud in Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization System

As the waste residue from soda plants,white mud has potential application as a novel-type desulfurizer.This paper explored the chemical constituents and dissolution rate of white mud,operated a performance test on a small wet flue gas desulfurization unit.Component analysis showed that the highest concentrations found in white mud is CaCO_3(60%), followed by the active ingredient of MgO(5%).Laser particle size analysis revealed that mud's size is small.High-alkaline and fine particle size result in a significantly higher activity than limestone powder.The results indicated that wet flue gas desulfurization system with white mud is feasible both in economy and technique.However,the replacement from limestone to white mud still needs interrelated evaluation and technical reform.
