Study on chemical composition of the atmospheric fine aerosol in Beijing city

In June 2000, atmospheric fine aerosol samples were collected in the observatory of Institute of Atomospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in the north suburb of Beijing. The samples were analyzed with proton induced X-ray emission(PIXE) method, and concentrations of 19 chemical elements, suchas Al、Si、P、S、Cl、K etc and their distribution are obtained. The sources of atmospheric aerosols in Beijing and changes of the elemental composition far last years were studied. The results show that concentrations of many elements decrease in different degree, compared with those in the past. It shows that prevention and control of the atmospheric pollution in Beijing are effective.
