Research on Filtering of RADARSAT Images

DU Pei jun ( Institute of Surveying and Spatial Information Engineering, CUMT, Xuzhou, Jiangsu 221008, China )  
Based on the analysis of the characteristics of speckle noise in SAR images and popular filtering methods used in SAR images, some filtering methods, including median filtering, average filtering, LEE and enhanced LEE filtering, FROST and enhanced FROST filtering, KUAN filtering, GAMMA filtering and soft threshold algorithm based on wavelet transform were applied to RADARSAT images. The flatness index, the edge remaining index and primary statistical parameters were used to compare the results of different methods. The result shows that the traditional average and median filtering methods are noneffective and low in precision for RADARSAT images, but the adaptive algorithms and the soft threshold algorithm based on wavelet transform are the most effective methods.
