Microsurgery for giant Meningiomas (a Report of 102 Cases)

Objectives To summary the experience in intreating giant meningiomas by microsurgery and the operative technique. Method The clinical data of 102 patients with the giant meningiomas (diameter≥7.0 cm) undergoing microsurgery in our department from June 1990 to June 2006 were analyzed retrospectively. Results According to Simpson grading of minigiomas resection, grade Ⅰ was achieved in 76 cases, grade Ⅱ in 19, grade Ⅲ in 7. Eighty patients recovered well, 18 were improved and 4 died. Conclusion The skillful microsurgical technique, the prompt treatment of the postoperative complications are helpful to enhancing the rate of total resection of the tumor and decreasing disabled rate.
