Properties and Biodegradability of Nano-tanning Agent

A kind of nano-tanning agent was synthesized via hydrophilic modification of natural oil(rapeseed oil and fish oil) followed by blending with tetraethoxy silane.The stability of nano-tanning agent and the emulsion stability,acid and electrolyte resistibility of dispersion supporter were investigated.The thermal stability and softness of leather treated by above nano-tanning agent were also studied.Finally the biodegradability of the nano-tanning agent under activated sludge was qualitatively evaluated base on determinations of biological respiration curve and BOD5/COD value.To quantitative analysis of the biodegradability,COD and TOC removal after 5d biodegradation were also carried out.The results indicate that the emulsion stability,acid and electrolyte resistibility of dispersion supporter and the stability of nano-tanning agent are good;the biological respiration curve of 1 000mg/L nano-tanning agent solution is above the endogenous respiration curve,BOD5/COD value is greater than 0.45,the COD and TOC removal after 5d biodegradation is 93.45% and 89.08%,respectively.The results show that the nano-tanning agent is an environmental friendly material with good biodegradability.
