A System atic Method of Soii and Water Conservation Planning in Reservior Area of the Three--gorge Project

This paper introduces a systematic method of soil and water conservation plann—ing by making use of remote sensing and computer techniques in reservior area of the Three—gorge Project.Taking the I:50000 SPOT satellite images of the reservior area as the base map making use of the 1:10000 infrared aerial pho—toes and the information obtained from field investigation,seven specific mapsincluding nine elements were interpreted such as geology.geomorphology.1andslope,vegetation(types and degree of coverage),present status of land use and soil erosion(intensity and rate).By overlapping these specific maps,the comp—rehensive map used in the planning can be produced.On this map,the spot area of planning can be obtained by scanning techniques.the subjects and factors of the spots are numbered and registered.the data of single—fator or double—factor are processed by computer to optimize the control measures of each spot.Refe—ring to the quota and typical benefit analysis of soil and water conservationthe total investment is allocated among the state,cornmunity and individuals according to the existing policies and the state's financial resources.At last.area to be harnessed in stages and the expected rate of harnessing are worked out to be included in the general report
