Study on Ecology Protection in Lower Reaches Area of the Sulehe River

The study area is located in the lower reaches region of the Sulehe River, Hexi Corridor of Gansu province. The paper investigated into its main causes of ecological deterioration, terminal lake retreating, wet land shrinking, bio-diversity reducing, soil salinization and land desertification developing; then has proposed the key problem of ecological environment protection, has also predicted the water resources need and the available quantity in future. For details, the water need for preventing the ecosystems of existing forest land, grass land, wet land and lake, etc. from continuously degrading is 2.92×10~(8) m~(3), among which Anxi County accounts for 1.5217×10~(8) m~(3), Dunhuang County for 1.4306×10~(8) m~(3). Whereas, the available ecological water quantity from the Changma reservoir is only 2.4058×10~(8) m~(3), so the water deficit is still 0.52×10~(8) m~(3). For compensating the shortage it needs the carrying out of water-saving agriculture and even the establishment of water-saving society in the whole water basin.
