Development of Transparent Nucleating Agent for Polypropylene

The transparent nucleating agents for polypropylene were reviewed, including their development, processing, and formulation. Rosin acid, amide, dicyclocarboxylic acid, and imide constitute some new types of such nucleating agents. Rosin acid type includes dehydroabietic acid, rosin acid salts, blends of rosin acid and its salts, co-crystals of dehydroabietic acid and its salts, and rosin amide. Calcium stearate may cause synergistic effect with rosin acid type nucleating agent or with linear low density polyethylene. The effects of the chemical structure on the properties of polypropylene were also discussed.
