Changes of NO and effect of aminoguanidine on NO level in goats with endotoxemia

Twenty-two hybrid goats were divided randomly into experimental Group A, B, C and D, and control group. Group A were administrated with 50mL of saline containing small dose of lipopolysacc- haride (LPS) for 1800EU/kg body weight, Group B were administrated with 25mg of aminoguanidine (AG) after injection of LPS for 1800EU/kg, Group C were treated with 50mL of saline containing large dose of LPS for 5400EU/kg, Group D were treated with 25mg of AG after injection of LPS for 5400(EU/kg), and the control group received 50mL of saline only. The content of serum NO, nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity and level of cGMP were determined to study NO metabolism. The results indicated that the activity of nitric oxide synthase, and the levels of serum nitric oxide and cGMP increased significantly after LPS injection (P(0.05)),which suggested that excess NO plays an important role in pathoge- nesis in goats with endotoxemia and AG can inhibit development of endotoxemia.
