Effect of Potentilla anserine polysaccharide on proliferation of splenic lymphocytes and production of nitric oxide in mice

In order to evaluate the mechanism of immune modulation of Potentilla anserine polysaccharide (PAP), the proliferation and secretion of nitric oxide were observed in vitro in murine splenic lymphocytes treated with different PAP concentrations of 0,50,100,200,400mg/L respectively. Results were as follows. The cells treated with ConA or LPS together with 50(mg/L) of PAP proliferated significantly(P0.05), the cells treated with ConA or LPS together with PAP ranging from 100mg/L to 400mg/L proliferated very significantly in a concentration dependent manner, and the secretion of nitric oxide from the cells treated with different concentrations of PAP raised markedly, compared with normal control. The results showed that PAP can stimulate proliferation of splenic lymphocytes in vitro in a concentration dependent manner and increase production of nitric oxide.
