Comparative analysis of partial DNA sequence expressing mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 among three strains of Eimeria tenella

To study the genetic relationship of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1(cox1) gene among different virulent strains of Eimeria tenella and different Eimeria species,cox1 genes was amplified by polymerase chain reaction,and a partial sequence(pcox1) of cox1 gene,659bp in size was got from the three strains of E.tenella.Sequence comparison and analysis were carried out among the pcox1 gene sequences of E.tenella,E.maxima,E.necatrix and E.acervulina available in GenBank.In results,there was no difference in nucleotides of the pcox1 sequences among the various strains of E.tenella,but there was distinct difference between different species of Eimeria.The results showed that pcox1 sequence could be used as a genetic marker for the genetic studies on different species of Eimeria,but it was not related to the virulence of E.tenella.
