Effects of Ball Milling Process and Composite Dopants on the Performance of (Zr,Sn)TiO_4 Microwave Dielectric Ceramics

In order to improve microwave dielectric properties of(Zr,Sn)TiO4(abbreviated ZST) ceramics, the effects of Milling medium and composite dopants of 1 wt% ZnO and 0 ~ 0.8 wt% WO3 on the properties of ZST ceramics have been developed. The agate balls and zirconia balls were selected as grinding mediums, the powders were prepared using solid state method, Q·f values and frequency temperature coefficients(abbreviated) of ceramics were tested using the closed cavity method. The results showed that agate balls in a ceramic pot were worn significantly and reduced Q·f value of ZST ceramics, doped the same WO3, the Q·f values of ZST ceramics milled with agate balls and zirconia balls in a Polyurethane tank respectively were different, the former one is obviously lower than the other, Q·f value of ZST ceramics increased with the amount of WO3, varied from positive to negative with the amount of WO3. Doped 0.8 wt% WO3, milled with zirconia balls for 6 h, sintered at 1330 ℃ for 2 h, ZST ceramics was obtained with excellent microwave dielectric properties, which dielectric constant() is 38.3,Q·f 45300 GHz, negative 2.2ppm/℃.
