The effect of biofeedback assisted relaxation training on glucose metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes

To investigate the effect of relaxation training on glucose metabolism 56 patients with type 2 diabetes were randomly divided into two groups. A control group of 33 cases was treated with conventional therapy and a training group of 23 cases received biofeedback assisted relaxation training in addition to conventionaltherapy. The levels of blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobulin were evaluated before and after-treatment. The results showed that all subjects demonstrated significant improvement in fasting blood glucose,post-prandial two-hour blnd glucose, mean bldri glucose and HbA1c levels, but the extent of improvement was significantly greater in training group than in control group. The daily fluctuation of blood glucose reduced significantly in the training group, but not in the control group, The results indicated that glucose metabolism was improved significantly in the diabetic patients with this training. It mighe be taken as an adjuvant measure for reducing bldri g1ucose in type 2 diabetes.
