Gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)is a common complication during pregnancy, and the incidence rate is still increasing. GDM not only increases the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes, but also increases the risk of obesity and diabetes in offspring. Here we review the literatures of lifestyle intervention on the prevention of GDM. Plant protein and fat are associated with reduced risk of GDM. Pregnant women should be encouraged to adhere to a dietary pattern based on plant food. Nutrient supplementation such as vitamin D,inositol and probiotics seems to reduce the risk of GDM. There is still a lack of randomized clinical trials for pre-pregnancy lifestyle interventions. Lifestyle intervention from early pregnancy, interventions for high-risk groups of GDM,especially for overweight or obese pregnant women, will be more valuable in preventing GDM.
