Study on the Tungsten Electrode Failure of TIG Welding under High Pressure Air Condition

The TIG test was performed in the high-pressure simulative examination equipment.There are mainly three Tungsten Failure forms,namely,erosion(occupying 90 % in the total failure rate),tungsten tip with metal adhibitted(occupying 9 % in the total failure rate),tungsten melt(occupying 1 % in the total failure rate).Tungsten failure geometry criterion was also put forward.Formation mechanism of tungsten rim was studied,which showed the tungsten rim was the result of tungsten recrystallization and decomposition and sediment of tungsten oxide in the proper-temperature granulation zone of tungsten tip.The relevant factors that influence tungsten failure were analyzed and a fault tree of tungsten failure was constructed.Through qualitative and quantitative analysis to the fault tree,its minimal cutest was found,and the significance degree coefficients are calculated.Some measures of preventing tungsten failure are put forward based on the study.
