Anxiety and its effect on glucose metabolism in patients with diabetes mellitus

Objective To investigate the level of anxiety in patients with diabetes mellitus, and to explore the effect of anxiety on glucose metabolism. Methods 186 patients with diabetes mellitus were collected (experiment group) and control group included 100 normal persons. Both two groups were administered status trait scale, in addition, Serum fasting blood glucose (FBS), post prandial two hours blood glucose level (2PBS) and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) were evaluated at pretreatment. Results The level of trait anxiety was higher in experiment group than in control group. Degree of the status anxiety was correlative with sex and occupation and degree of the trait anxiety was correlative with( level of HbA1c and occupation. Conclusion This study suggest that the level of trait were higher in patients with diabetes mellitus than people without any diseases. The trait may be effect on glucose metabolism in patients with diabetes mellitus.
