Optimization of the Extraction Technology of Icariin from Herba Epimedii

WANG Xin, WANG Ting-ting, WANG Hai-jun, WENG Dai-qun, YANG Yong, LI Qing, LUO Wei-zao(Chongqing Academy of Chinese Materia Medica, Chongqing 400065, China)  
OBJECTIVE:To optimize the extraction technology of icariin from Herba Epimedii. METHODS: With the extraction transfer rate of icariin as index, the different extraction methods and extraction conditions were investigated. RESULTS: The percolation method was confirmed to be the optimal extraction technology in which 60%～75% alcohol was used as solvent and the amount of the collected percolate was 8 times that of the medicinal material. Under the above condition, the extraction transfer rate of icariin was as high as 90%. CONCLUSION: The extraction technology is highly efficient, resource-saving and practicable.
